Oil Is Fungible — Food Stuffs Are Not
Instead of using some of the world’s 200-plus-year supply of oil, American politicians mandated that Americans must have ethanol added to their gasoline.  This gasoline-ethanol mixture provides fewer miles per gallon than does pure gasoline.  Therefore, Americans are able to drive fewer miles on each gallon using the gasoline-ethanol mixture.  This trade off is not always favorable for the corn market or the gasoline market.
American politicians have forced Americans to compete with their vehicles for food and fuel.
